Had a great lesson today! The kids were glued to the story… That’s how you know it was a success! 🙂
We read my “Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet” book. This book draws out lots of expressive and receptive language. There are so many opportunities for asking WH and yes/no questions.

At the beginning of the book, every student got a matching piece so they had to pay extra attention during the story so they could match to the correct page. This is a great tool for keeping their attention. The kids loved trying to guess which character was showing through the keyhole. And the ending of this story has a funny twist! After reading the story we sang a really fun Halloween song called “Knock Knock, Trick or Treat” from Super Simple Songs Halloween CD.

The song has several Halloween characters in it so I laminated the witch, pirate, cowboy, ghost, and monster and attached them to wooden paint/stir sticks that you can get from any store that sells paint (they are free if you ask for a few). I also used the wooden paint sticks for the extra large “doorbell and stinky feet” that go along with the book. When the words in the story “Ding-Dong, Ding-Dong” and “Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet” came up, I held up the “large doorbell and large stinky feet” as a visual cue for the kids to say “Ding-Dong, Ding-Dong” and “Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet”. It’s definitely a lesson I will reapeat! 🙂
