Whether you are working on phonology or artic, we all know that speech sound therapy can be a little… well… try saying a word one to two hundred times in a thirty minute session and think about how exciting that is for a 4, 5, 6, or 7 year old. In order to get buy-in from your students, you need to make those trials a little more exciting. I am not a big proponent of playing games. It’s too time consuming, too confusing, and the focus gets taken away from what we are trying to accomplish, meeting the speech goals.
With that said, I want my students to WANT to come to speech so when appropriate, I do have a few activities (games) that I use. These games have to be quick, easy, and fun or I won’t waste my time. I don’t like rolling the dice or moving pieces … too time consuming, things fall on the floor, or pieces get knocked over… so when I discovered this simple little game and it was a GINORMOUS hit, I knew I had a winner! And if you are working on velars, there are lots of words to pull out of this game. For $7.50, this game has been the best investment I have made when it comes to a fun activity. I highly recommend buying this… 🙂
