The start of a workweek can be filled with to-do lists for this and to-do lists for that. Often we run around trying to get everything done when in reality, it’s impossible. Stop and realize that the day only has 24 hours in it. We are all human… trying to do the best we can with the time we have. Don’t let stress take over the moments in your life that can be spent sitting with your child looking at the clouds or coloring a book. These quiet moments can be the best opportunities to increase language development. Use words to describe what you and your child are doing then ask your child to tell you what the two of you are doing (e.g.”I am coloring the apple red. What color am I coloring the apple?” or “What am I coloring red?”). Using all of these moments to communicate with your child and provide opportunities for them to respond can really help with increasing language skills. You are their best teacher, their best model for speech and language development. So read a book, make some pudding, or sing some songs… and I promise you will have a reason to smile! <3
