Using simple activities as a reinforcer or to teach turn taking skills can work really well for many students, especially our students on the spectrum. A simple activity like tic-tac-toe can be a perfect chance to work on appropriate responses to losing or winning, because you can play several rounds in one session. And, I find many of our students don’t even know how to play simple games like this.
It’s also perfect for busy parents. For those of you who are familiar wth me, you know I am always trying to promote easy, simple, quick activities that can be done in 10-15 minutes. If we can get in the habit of doing these kinds of short activities along with reading simple stories, the language skills will improve and you will be building special memories with your child.
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
